⭐️KILIMANJARO RONGAI 6 DAY TREK⭐️

Due to its isolation, this route is less busy and provides trekkers with a memorable wilderness experience where it is possible to encounter large animals such as antelope, elephants, and buffalo. Although it is flatter, it does not offer the option to climb high and sleep low, hence it is advised to choose more days for acclimatization.

One of the simpler ascent routes for Kilimanjaro is the Rongai route. The only way to climb Kilimanjaro from the north is via Rongai, and the Marangu Route is used for descent.

The climb from Kibo Huts to the summit is steep and follows the same route as the Marangu route, which passes Gilman's Point on the way to the Uhuru Peak.

There are a few different approaches; the one that is mentioned is a longer one that includes Mawenzi Tarn.

Duration: 6 days
Difficulty: Medium
Scenery: Very Good
Traffic: Low

Itineraries

Day 1

NALE MURU GATE – SIMBA CAMP: 7KM/5MI | 3-4 HRS | RAINFOREST Elevation: 1997m/6552ft to 2635m/8645ft Altitude gained: 638m

You can reach the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate after a 4-5 hour drive from Moshi that passes through coffee farms and the village of Nale Muru.

We will wait patiently for the issuance of our permits while seeing the flurry of activity as other crews get ready for the voyage ahead. Also, as your guide informs you about the regional flora and fauna and natural species you are likely to observe, you can take in the stunning woodland surroundings and winding trails.

With breathtaking views of Kenya's plains, Simba Camp is located close to the first cave at the edge of the moorland region.

Day 2

SIMBA CAMP – SECOND CAVE CAMP: 5.8KM/3.6MI | 5-6HRS | MOORLAND Elevation: 2635m/8645ft to 3487m/11,440ft Altitude gained: 852m

Following a restful night's sleep and a filling breakfast, we continue along moorland terrain on a consistent ascending path.

You will catch some terrific views of Kibo and get your first glimpse of the ice fields on the Eastern crater rim. The small shrubs of the moorland became thinner as you approach the Second Cave. The weather starts to get colder.

Day 3

SECOND CAVE CAMP – THIRD CAVE CAMP: 3.3KM/2MI | 3-4HRS | SEMI DESERT Elevation: 2635m/8645ft to 3936m/12,913ft Altitude gained: 449m

You start your steady ascent after breakfast and pack before approaching the semi-desert terrain. You get closer to the Eastern ice fields on this relatively short hiking day, which keeps catching your eye for its magnificence.

Pay attention to your body's signals and alert your guide if you experience any altitude sickness symptoms.

Day 4

THIRD CAVE CAMP- KIBO HUTS: 6.7KM/4.2MI | 4-5HRS | ALPINE DESERT Elevation: 3936m/12,913ft to 5174m/16975ft Altitude gained: 1238m

You start your adventure into the Alpine Desert terrain early in the morning from the Third Cave, leaving the semi-desert region behind.

You will reach the Kibo Huts today through a trek that passes just below the Kibo crater wall. You will now combine with the Marangu Route, which you will follow to ascend to the peak at this point.

Prior to going to bed at 7 PM and getting some rest before your summit attempt, you will prepare your clothing and equipment (replace batteries for camera and headlamp).

Day 5

KIBO HUTS – SUMMIT: 4KM/2.5 MI UP | 5-7HRS | – HOROMBO HUTS: 15.75KM/9.8MI DOWN | 5-6HRS | GLACIERS, SNOW CAPPED SUMMIT Elevation: 5174m/16975ft to 5895m/19,341ft Altitude gained: 721m Descent to 3721m/12,208ft Altitude lost: 2174m

Ahead of the early morning start between midnight and two in the morning, anticipation is growing. The most difficult part of the trek is now, both psychologically and physically.

Between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, we make our way to the summit while attempting to remain warm and concentrated on the incredible sense of success that awaits us.

During your little respite here, you will be rewarded with the most stunning dawn by moving switchback in a northwesterly direction and ascending over thick scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. On the summit, hikers that go more quickly may see the sunrise. Snow is probably going to be there the entire time you climb the last hour to Uhuru Peak from here.

Congratulations, you have finally arrived to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the whole African continent, one step at a time!

We pause to celebrate this amazing achievement after photographs, parties, and perhaps a few happy tears. After stopping at Barafu for lunch and a quick respite, we start our descent toward Mweka Camp. For unfriendly loose gravel and volcanic ash terrain, we highly advise gaiters and walking poles.

Next enjoy your final evening on the mountain while taking a well-earned nap. We sleep at Mweka Camp tonight.

Day 6

HOROMBO HUTS – MARANGU GATE – MOSHI: 20KM/12.5MI |6-7HRS | RAINFOREST Elevation: 3721m/12,208ft to 1905m/6250ft Altitude lost: 1816m

It's time to bid your crew farewell after breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony of gratitude and team bonding. We continue the descent down stopping at the Mandara Huts for lunch. Remember to tip your guides, cooks, and porters, since you will be leaving them here.

The MaranguPark Gate is where you will pick up your summit certificates as we resume our descent. The terrain is wet, muddy, and steep due to the significantly warmer temperature, and we strongly advise trekking poles and gaiters.

The drive back to your hotel in Moshi will take about 30 minutes from the gate, where a car will be waiting for you. You now can enjoy supper, festivities, and a long-overdue hot shower!

The drive back to your hotel in Moshi will take about 30 minutes from the gate, where a car will be waiting for you in Mweka village. You now can enjoy supper, festivities, and a long-overdue hot shower!
